a new adventure

i was going to start this post off by saying farewell, but i'm not going anywhere. we're just saying goodbye to poppy & leo. as most of you know, i have started a new adventure... my very own floral design studio here in boston called Wild Folk Studio! the official launch and shop opening is on monday. with a lot of thought and changing of the mind, i ultimately decided to retire poppy & leo and give my heart and soul to the flower studio.

i want to say thank you so much to all of my readers who have been so incredibly supportive and inspiring over the past few years. and an overwhelming thank you to those that have been so encouraging during this transition. i am grateful for each and everyone of you.

i'll still be blogging about flowers, music, local boston finds, etc. over on the new wild folk blog. i hope you will continue to follow along with my adventures. if you'd like, update your rss feeds and blog rolls. you can also follow wild folk on instagram, facebook, pinterest and twitter

happenings

with the holidays wrapping up life is starting to come down to a slower pace, briefly. we've had a short break in traveling, at least until we head to nyc next week.

i've been using the down time to work on my new flower venture. if you follow me on instagram or twitter then you may have seen a sneak peek.  i'm over the moon about taking this leap, but i'd be lying if i told you there wasn't an element of fear. i'll be launching the new site, blog and shop in february!

handmade holiday

we decided to keep holiday decorating to a minimum this year, because we're traveling for the next three weeks. i handmade a large wreath for our red front door, a few mini wreaths, and a simple garland; all from objects we found in nature. one evening last week, mark brought me home the most beautiful christmas tree that remains bare, except for a few pinecone ornaments.

new digs

unpacking has been a bit slow with a new puppy and mark traveling for work. one room down, four to go. at least it's the most important room, right?

in the studio | thanksgiving flowers

this year we spent thanksgiving with mark's family in boston. it was a small gathering of his dad, step-mom, siblings, our friend colin and us. it was as warm, loving and cozy as thanksgiving should be.

i made a s'mores cake to celebrate john's birthday (mark's brother), which was the next day. a layer of chocolate cake covered in marshmallow frosting and crushed graham cracker. followed by another layer of chocolate cake, then chocolate frosting. i used this recipe for the marshmallow frosting, but i used less confectionary sugar and butter than suggested, because it was too sweet for my liking.

i also made floral arrangements for the table centerpiece.  i wanted the arrangements to be rich in color, but have a contrast in textures. i paired soft blooms, like the peonies, with more rustic textures, the thistle and dried lavender.

i couldn't have asked for a better thanksgiving. kind hearts and delicious food.
